Specify the population of your study. This should be done in one to three sentences. Be sure to include specific characteristics such as age range, gender, location, and any other relevant identifiers unique to your population.
The population for my study consists of females aged eighteen to thirty-five residing in North Carolina. A history of mental disorders is a required criterion. The study also explores issues related to substance abuse.
Explain your sampling strategy. Write at least one paragraph detailing your sampling strategy, the method you plan to use to conduct your survey, and any potential challenges that may influence your survey results. Select one of the following techniques: random, stratified, cluster, systematic, or convenience. Your choice of strategy should align with the purpose of your survey and the characteristics of your population.
The survey aims to explore the relationship between trauma, mental health issues, and substance abuse problems. It comprises six questions, with the first four being binary and the last two quantitative (age and the number of years of illegal substance use). I anticipate that the majority of responses to the first four questions will be affirmative, as I hypothesize a direct correlation between trauma, mental health disorders, and substance abuse. The responses regarding the number of years using substances and age are expected to vary widely.
For data collection, I would utilize the convenience sampling technique. This method was chosen to ensure that the quantitative survey is distributed to a specific group. I could visit a local mall and distribute the survey to females aged eighteen to forty who openly acknowledge having mental health problems. If all responses to the binary questions are affirmative, the correlation between trauma, mental health disorders, and substance abuse will be evident. Potential issues that could impact my survey include participants who refuse to take part and the honesty of the responses provided.
